School-Based Health Centers are designed to make healthcare more accessible for students — but we know there can be questions about exactly how they work.
So, let’s talk MYTHS vs. REALITY.
School-based healthcare doesn’t replace your child’s primary care provider. Instead, it provides an additional point of access for care while working alongside the providers and families who already know your child.
Parents and guardians remain an important part of the care team. Our School-Based Health Centers follow established consent requirements, professional standards, policies, and applicable laws, and our goal is to keep families informed about their child’s care, recommendations, and follow-up needs.
And a visit to the School-Based Health Center doesn’t necessarily mean something is seriously wrong. Students may receive care for routine wellness needs, minor illnesses, screenings, preventive care, behavioral health support, immunizations, and more. (With Parental Consent)
For families, that can mean access to care right where students already are — at school — while helping reduce time away from the classroom and disruptions to the school day.
Take a look through some of the most common myths about School-Based Health Centers and learn a little more about the reality of how they work.
More access. More convenience. Another resource for keeping students healthy. ❤️
