Presbyterian Nursery School

Presbyterian Nursery School Welcome to the Presbyterian Nursery School. Our school was established in 1959 to provide a quality, non-sectarian preschool program that is open to all.

We are sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville and can be found in The Westminster House on the church grounds. The Steering Committee together with the school's Director and Teachers oversee the planning and administration of the school.

We have two amazing teaching assistants at PNS too. They show up ready and willing to support our teachers and students in any way they can.

Miss Gail was kind enough to come out of retirement to sit on our floor and play. She has the BEST imagination and is often running a doctor’s office, a vet clinic, a restaurant, or driving a bus in our imaginative play area. She is a wealth of nursery school knowledge and we are so grateful she shares it with us!

Miss Shannon is our gal Friday! She comes to play every Friday and the students are always excited to see her. She can often be found reading, chatting, and laughing with the students. She’ll drop anything to admire a block tower or a piece of artwork and she is constantly on the go making sure our days run smoothly!

We are so lucky to work with both of these incredible women!

Mrs. Schoneman has taught in both the 3s and the 4s classes here at PNS. She is the queen of glitter and glue. It is hard to top her skills at making birthday crowns, because she recognizes that all the little things matter. She is always excited to listen to the ideas and stories her students share. She is thoughtful in her relationships with students and their families, in how she plans her lessons each day, and in her willingness to always pitch in and help her fellow teachers. She brings her own sparkle to the classroom every day, no glitter needed.

Mrs. Lisi is not new to our PNS family, but she joined our team of teachers this year in the 3 year old class. She is the perfect addition to our crew and brings so much enthusiasm. It is clear that she loves learning and is always looking for ways to expose our kiddos to exciting new ideas. She even coordinates her outfits with most of her lessons! Her science background helps her easily include elements of discovery into any lesson. Her big heart helps her ease the minds of littles with a lap to sit in, a hand to hold, or a word of encouragement.

This week is teacher appreciation week, so we’re going to take time to recognize the amazing women who make PNS such a special place.

Mrs. Offredi has been at PNS for more than 10 years! She is a super organizer of ideas, kiddos, supplies- and even us teachers. We’d be lost without her! She is creative and always coming up with new projects and easel activities. Her calm presence in the classroom often leads to her surrounded by kiddos in the book nook. 💕

What does science look like in a play-based learning environment? It looks like PLAY! What’s really happening here is…🪁 Students are asking questions and testing their ideas in a setting that is familiar to them.🪁 They are communicating, working together, and taking turns.🪁 They are connecting new ideas to things that are familiar to them simply by playing in a new way. What they don’t realize is…✏️They are learning about mass by testing heavy and light objects in front of the fan.✏️ They are learning about force by turning the fan higher and lower to see what happens.✏️ They are developing a basic understanding of the concepts of physics all while playing, laughing, and having fun! If you want to know more about what we do each day at PNS, stop by our open house tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22nd from 5-7pm.
