Your child deserves more than babysitting. They deserve Happy Speak.

Nobody handed you a manual when your child started showing signs of a delay. And the system is certainly not going to volunteer this information.

So I’m going to.

You do not need a referral from your pediatrician to get your child evaluated for early intervention.

You do not need a diagnosis. You do not need anyone’s permission. Federal law, specifically IDEA Part C, gives you the right to call your state’s Early Intervention program directly and request a free evaluation.

All you need is a concern.

Once you make that call, they have 45 days to complete the evaluation. That is not a suggestion. That is the law.

If your child qualifies, services have to happen in your natural environment, your home, your daycare, not just wherever happens to have an opening.

You have the right to be part of every decision. You have the right to disagree with an evaluation result. You have the right to appeal.

And if anyone tells you your child doesn’t seem delayed enough to qualify over the phone, push back. That is not a determination they can make without a full evaluation.

Request it anyway.
