Special shout-out to Tutor Extraordinaire Ian Chan! Former Valedictorian of BHS, rising sophomore at Stony Brook studying Biomedical Engineering, and a dedicated tutor at The Smart Scribe for the past few years. Ian tutors our SMARTScholars both on-site and virtually in reading, writing, math, and science. He is also an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Mario Shields Lab studying pancreatic cancer. Additionally, Ian is S3 in the Simon’s STEM Scholars program at SBU. Ian has become more than a tutor, but also a mentor to many young people he has the pleasure of working with. Eventually, Ian aspires to apply by engineering principles to healthcare. He is passionate about helping others reach their goals in their academic journey!

Helpful Writing Tip for differentiating between: there, their, and they're. Homophones are words that sound alike but have different meanings and spellings. Use "there" or location/existence (e.g., "over there"), "their" for possession (e.g., "their house"), and "they're" as a contraction of "they are".
