43 years and still learning. ❤️

Yesterday, Doug and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary.

Marriage isn’t about never going through hard things. It isn’t about always getting it right. It’s about learning, growing, forgiving, changing some patterns, and finding your way back to each other again and again.

After 43 years, I certainly don’t have marriage all figured out — but I do know that good relationships don’t just happen. They take intention, grace, laughter, patience, and sometimes a whole lot of learning along the way.

I’m grateful for the life we’ve built, the memories we’ve made, the things we’ve weathered, and the many chapters still ahead of us.

Build the Relationship You Want — On Purpose

We don’t create a beautiful room by accident.

We plan it.
We make choices.
We decide what we want.
We figure out what to do when something doesn’t work.

Relationships are really no different.

Good intentions are not always enough.

Because when the trigger happens and the troll starts talking, we need a plan for what we’re going to do next.

Relationships don’t usually get better by accident. We have to build something different on purpose.

In this video, I talk about what that can actually look like.

If you’re tired of the same old patterns and want help building something different, send me a private message.

We all have wiring.

Beliefs, thoughts, stories, habits and old protective patterns.

Do you know how you’re wired?

Is that wiring helping you get to where you want to go? #

Sometimes we stay in places we don’t really want to be.

Not because we like it there — but because it’s familiar.

That brown meadow might be resentment, self-doubt, fear, overthinking, an unhealthy habit, or a relationship that needs some work.

And we can SEE the lush green meadow on the other side. The place we'd rather be.

We want more peace. Better relationships. Better health. More confidence. More joy.

But then we step toward the bridge — and the troll jumps up.

Not to encourage us forward.

To talk us into retreating back toward what we already know.

“You’ve tried before.”
“This won’t work.”
“Stay where you are.”
“Start later.”

That troll's job is to keep us in what’s familiar — even when familiar isn’t comfortable, healthy, or where we want to be.

Wouldn’t it be great to learn how to hear him without automatically turning around? To hear him, but to not obey him?

The troll can talk. You still get to walk.

"Don't ruin today by reliving yesterday's problems."

What happened is done.
What was said, what went wrong, what hurt—you’ve already carried it far enough.
Why let it steal today too?

Every time we relive the past, we miss the peace and possibilities of the present.
You deserve better than that.

Let today be new.
Let yourself move forward.
Let go—not because it didn’t matter, but because you do.

Ever feel like someone pushes your buttons—and suddenly you’re not acting like the person you want to be?

You’re not alone.
We all have emotional "hot buttons" that get triggered—often without even realizing it.

The good news?
You don't have to stay stuck in old reactive patterns.

One of my clients recently faced a situation that would have normally set her off...
But this time, she used the emotional intelligence tools we worked on together.

✅ She stood up for herself.
✅ She stayed calm.
✅ She created an empowering outcome—without regret, defensiveness, or shutting down.

Imagine if you could do that too.
Not just once—but over and over again.
In every relationship that matters to you.

✨
I just wrote a blog sharing how emotional intelligence can turn your biggest triggers into your biggest strengths.

You can read it on my blog over at https://www.fayprairie.com/whos-really-in-charge-of-your-emotions/
💬 And if you’re ready to stop reacting and start responding with calm, confidence, and clarity... you can schedule a free consultation at www.talk2fay.com

Because staying calm isn’t just a skill.
It’s a superpower. 💥

The size of your problems is nothing compared with your ability to solve them. Don't overestimate your problems and underestimate yourself.

“Ask yourself: Will this matter a year from now?”

In the heat of the moment, everything feels huge.
The comment. The mistake. The messy conversation.
The thing you can’t stop replaying in your mind.

But pause…
Breathe…
Zoom out.

Will this still matter a year from now?

So often, the answer is no.
And just like that, you give yourself the gift of peace, perspective, and emotional freedom.

✨ This one question can change your whole day.

If this helped you, give it a like—or share it with someone who needs a little reminder to step back and breathe. 💛
