MCS Update...
Thank you to our staff, students, and parents for the work you have done in our communities for the past 2 weeks. We believe that all students and staff have been accounted for and cannot wait to welcome them back to our buildings. Please know that we are working hard to get our students back to school as soon as possible. We do have a few announcements...
1. All K-5 students may stop by their school on Tuesday to pick up a learning exploration kit. These will include fun literacy, math, and art activities for students while they are out of school.
2. We know college application deadlines are quickly approaching for high school seniors. We will have staff available to help seniors with these next week.
3. Varsity high school sports will resume next week on a revised schedule. The MHS Varsity Volleyball team will play Heritage and Avery at Mitchell Middle School beginning at 12:00pm on Wednesday. Admission is $5. The MHS Varsity Football team will travel to Draughn next Saturday, October 19 for a 2:00pm kickoff.

We know there are many needs to be met over the next weeks and months. Please know we are here to support our entire school community,however possible.

Update: Friends.... for any of you wanting to do something tangible to help people here hit by this flood, here's a way. The need is immediate and urgent for water, gas, and food.

If you try to come to Mitchell A) bring everything you need with you, including gas to fuel your car.
B) bring cash, because there is no electronic payment options
C) bring essential supplies . No need to get fancy this week. It's gas, water, and food. Everything else is luxury right now.

Folks can MAYBE get a call our message out IF they can get to the radio station in Burnsville or the top of the mountain. That assumes they have any gas to drive. So... know that folks are taking care of folks as best we can. It's gonna be a long road (gravel for now will do) to recovery here in WNC

Thank you to everyone who has reached out over the past few days! Family and friends like YOU are the most important things in trying times like this.

Personally I left Spruce Pine Thursday as the storm was intensifying. I drove in the storm to Greenville, NC for an event there on Saturday. I have had not communication from my parents back in Spruce Pine yet, but I understand from others they are safe. The area as you've seen is damaged worse than ever before.

Today I'm about to head back up to Spruce Pine. This means no phone or internet while I'm there, so.... if I don't respond to calls, texts, or messages....... that's why. I will try to get access to service as soon as possible and keep those of you asking updated. In the meantime, continue to pray for everyone affected by this situation. Best I can tell, from about Hendersonville over to Boone is the worst hit area with biblical flooding and destruction. It will be a trying time in the coming weeks and months for mountain people.

Thank you again. The LOVE and concern you have expressed mean the world! Stay safe and hope to be back to "normal" soon.

It wasn't the outcome we wanted, but.... we are thankful to have enough healthy players to be able to play. And what a beautiful place for soccer today up in Sparta!!! Next stop ...Cherryville next Wednesday at 6pm
