Let’s have a discussion today on you and your rights while you’re in labor and if a nurse or OB try and coerce you into saying that they cannot stop the Pitocin once it has started and the legal rights that you have.

Being in labor does not automatically remove that right. ACOG explicitly recognizes the right to refuse treatment during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. The care team should explain why they recommend continuing, the risks of stopping, and available alternatives while respecting the patient’s informed decision.
