Independent Living Center of Kern County has an amazing time hosting a booth at Bakersfield College’s ASL Awareness Day hosted by the ASL program!
A day filled with networking, playing games, eating lots of great food and socializing in American Sign Language!
Stories were shared by Deaf Community members about the importance of ASL and spreading awareness. What a great moment to hear from them and their experiences!

Independent Living Center of Kern County is honored to invite the Deaf Community to come witness the unveiling of the International Peace Pole through Bakersfield East Rotary Club and St. Vincent de Paul Center.
This special ceremony will unveil the peace pole slogan “MAY PEACE PREVAIL ON EARTH” displayed in 4 different languages:
English, Spanish, ASL and Braille

What a BEAUTIFUL day for the Deaf Community and celebrating Deaf History Month!
Kern County Deaf Community showed up with PRIDE and VISIBILITY! Every day is to be celebrated to be a part of such a rich, cultural and linguistic community.
Thank you to CALM Zoo, BGLAD and Lion’s Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children in hosting an inclusive and informative event.
We can’t wait for more next year! Accessibility, Deaf performances, Deaf history, Deaf Culture and Deaf resources to be shared!
