As the Spring 2026 semester comes to a close, we want to remind you that we're here for more than just your classes! We have an online "Get Out the Vote" guide that is designed to aid you in knowing where and when to vote in the upcoming state primary election, and also in making informed decisions by knowing how to do research on the candidates.

The election is three weeks from today, on Tuesday, June 2nd. All ballots must be dropped off at a ballot box location or postmarked in the mail by this date.

Next Monday, May 18th, is the deadline for registering to vote online; any registrations between that and Primary Election Day will need to be done in person at the County Clerk's office, or at your nearest polling place on Election Day itself.

Have you ever tried looking for a book from our catalog in person?? 🤔 It's easier than you think! ✨

Call numbers are the numbers you see on book spines/covers in a library and in the library's online catalog. Think of a call # like the address of a book, allowing us to know its exact location on the bookshelves (the "stacks"). 📗

Academic libraries, such as the Bakersfield College libraries, use the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system for our call numbers. The LCC call number is an alphanumeric combination looking something like this: F1226 .M54 1999

📚 CALL NUMBER BASICS 📚

--> Books are organized by subject area using letters A-Z 📑

--> Letters and numbers are used to provide a specific location in the stacks 📍

--> They are arranged in alphabetical then numerical order 💡

--> Call numbers are read left to right ➡️, then top to bottom ⬇️

Finding books just got easier and if you ever need help locating one, your friendly BC librarian is always there to walk you through the steps! ✨

You can also try your hand at creating some poetry of your own via our main campus library's fun Post-It Note Poetry Door!
