☀️ CREL had a summer packed with clean energy education, student research, and industry engagement!
 
🏢 In partnership with the BEST Program and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, 12 Bakersfield College students completed the High-Performance Buildings Research Program and presented recommendations for improving campus building efficiency.
 
🌱 We also hosted our third Lunch & Learn at College of the Canyons, where industry experts shared insights on high-performance buildings, workforce pathways, and clean energy technology.
 
🌬️ Through the CREL Traveling Academy, we partnered with the KCSOS STEAM Yard and Porterville Unified School District to serve 210 students—nearly doubling last year’s reach. Students explored wind energy through hands-on activities that strengthened their engineering and STEM skills.

Last week, CREL brought together students, national laboratory partners, and California Community College leaders at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).
 
CREL proudly sponsored Livermore Lab Foundation Summer Fellows from Kern Community College District through a partnership with Bakersfield College MESA and Industrial Automation—connecting students with national lab research, emerging technologies, and career pathways.
 
We also convened partners to explore expanding work-based learning, strengthening career pathways, and bringing national laboratory innovation into California’s community colleges.

As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, we’re reminded that innovation, collaboration, and the pursuit of a brighter future continue to shape the communities we serve. 
 
Please note that, in accordance with KernCCD office closures, CREL will be closed on Thursday, July 2, in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on Monday, July 6 and resume normal business hours.

Sustain Our Future Foundation Scholarship Recipient Highlight:  Edna Yulissa Ramirez Marin - Bakersfield College

Edna Ramirez is a second-year student at Bakersfield College pursuing a degree in Engineering. She plans to build a career developing sustainable energy technologies. Edna intends to transfer to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to earn her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and is honored to be a recipient of this scholarship.
