Today, this 2nd Degree Yellow Belt demonstrated an elbow strike board break during testing. 🥋💥
So what makes an elbow strike so powerful?
It’s not about swinging harder.
It’s about using proper technique.
Students learn to:
✅ Use their entire body, not just their arm
✅ Generate power through proper movement
✅ Focus on accuracy
✅ Commit to the technique
✅ Maintain control and balance
When good technique, confidence, and commitment come together, amazing things can happen.
And in this case…
💥 First try success! 💥
Great job showing the focus, determination, and skill needed to earn your next rank. 👏🥋🔥
Master Bang's Martial Arts
Master Bang's Martial Arts in Bakersfield, CA 🇺🇸🇰🇷! Taught by Grandmaster Bang! 🥋Fun Traditional TKD🥋 It is owned and operated by Master Hyo Sung Bang.
The Tae Ryong Taekwondo School of Bakersfield opened in November of 2008. Master Hyo Sung Bang started his Martial Arts studies at the age of six, and since that time has dedicated his life to learning and teaching the Taekwondo way. Since Master Bang began his career as an instructor in 1998, he has been devoted to sharing his passion for Taekwondo with his students and helping them to achieve th
Tiger Tots worked on 6 alternating kicks! 🥋🦵
While it may look like a simple kicking drill, students are building important skills with every kick.
Alternating kicks helps develop:
✅ Balance on both sides
✅ Coordination
✅ Focus and concentration
✅ Body control
✅ Left-right brain connection
✅ Memory and sequencing
Students must remember the pattern, stay balanced, and switch between legs while maintaining good technique.
These foundational skills help prepare them for more advanced kicking combinations as they progress through Taekwondo.
One kick at a time, they’re building confidence, coordination, and strong martial arts habits! 👏🥋❤️
Sophia was asked to demonstrate a somersault for the Tiger Tot class!
After showing everyone how it’s done, she took a little victory lap around the mat before getting back in line and doing the activity again with her classmates!
While the somersault is a fun skill to practice, the bigger lesson is confidence.
Standing in front of a group, demonstrating a skill, and believing in yourself can be a big step for young children.
Activities like these help students develop:
confidence
leadership skills
body awareness
courage to try new things
pride in their accomplishments
And sometimes... they earn a victory lap too
Way to go, Sophia!
.
The challenge for Sophia was:
🦵 Tae
🦵 Kwon
🦵 Do
🏃 Chase Master Smith
🦵 Tae
🦵 Kwon
🦵 Do
🙌 Finish with a giant high five!
Why do we practice kicking while moving?
Because martial arts is about more than standing in one spot and kicking a target. 🥋
Students learn how to:
✅ Move with balance and control
✅ Stay focused while changing directions
✅ Build coordination and agility
✅ Follow instructions
✅ Develop confidence through movement
And let’s be honest…
The jumping high five at the end might have been Sophia’s favorite part. 😄❤️
Sophia earned her 3rd and 4th stripes on her Tiger Tot belt.
One of the stripes focused on Home Rule Number 3:
“Be kind to your brothers and sisters.”
Sophia may not have brothers or sisters, but she works hard to show kindness to:
her friends at school
her family
her classmates during Taekwondo
and those around her every day
At MBMA, students are not only learning kicks and punches - they’re also learning important life skills and character development little by little.
We are so proud of Sophia’s:
hard work
listening skills focus in class
kindness toward others
growing confidence
Keep working hard, Sophia!
Sparring teaches students how to stay calm under pressure, think quickly, and trust their training.
Great work by these young martial artists as they sharpen their skills and push each other to improve every day! 🔥👊

Today’s Tiger Tot stepped up to the challenge and…
💥 Broke the board on the very first try! 💥
Board breaking is one of the most exciting parts of Taekwondo, but it’s about much more than breaking a piece of wood.
Students are learning:
✅ Confidence
✅ Focus
✅ Commitment
✅ Proper technique
✅ Believing in themselves
When a Tiger Tot breaks a board, they’re proving that they can overcome a challenge they may have once thought was impossible.
The smile afterward says it all. 😄🥋
Great job showing confidence, courage, and strong technique!
Board breaking is about more than strength. 🥋💥
This student was challenged to break a board using an elbow strike.
The first attempt didn’t break it.
The second attempt didn’t break it either.
But on the third try…
💥 SUCCESS! 💥
Moments like these teach students that perseverance is just as important as technique.
Students learn:
✅ Determination
✅ Focus under pressure
✅ Confidence
✅ Proper technique
✅ The value of trying again
Sometimes the biggest lesson isn’t breaking the board.
It’s refusing to quit until you do. 👏🥋🔥
Today, Master Bang worked with our Green Belts on developing a more effective back side kick for sparring. 🥋
One lesson he emphasized:
🎯 Aim above the belt.
Why?
Because a higher kick gives students more opportunities to score effectively.
If your kick travels high, you may land on the chest protector or even the head, depending on the situation.
Students also practiced:
🦵 Kicking combinations
👣 Proper foot placement
💥 Following up with a back side kick
⚡ Timing and distance control
As students advance, they learn that sparring isn’t just about kicking harder.
It’s about understanding strategy, accuracy, and making smart decisions in the moment.
That’s why Green Belts spend time learning not only how to kick, but where and when to use their techniques. 👏🥋🔥
Board breaking doesn’t always go perfectly the first time—and that’s okay. 🥋💥
During her test for 2nd Degree Yellow Belt, this student stepped up confidently for her board break.
On her first attempt, she missed the board and accidentally kicked Grand Master Bang’s hand instead. 😅
She could have gotten frustrated.
She could have gotten nervous.
Instead, she listened, adjusted, and tried again.
And on her second attempt…
💥 SUCCESS! 💥
Sometimes the most valuable lesson isn’t breaking the board.
It’s learning how to respond when things don’t go as planned.
✅ Stay positive
✅ Listen to coaching
✅ Make adjustments
✅ Try again
That’s exactly what martial arts is all about. ❤️🥋
