🕯️ Candlelight Vigil | Bringing Awareness to Su***de Prevention & Mental Health

Thank you to the CSUB Counseling Center for inviting the Veterans Success Center to be part of this meaningful Candlelight Vigil on campus.
Gathering together by candlelight was a powerful reminder of the importance of bringing awareness to su***de, supporting mental health, and making sure members of our campus community know they are not alone.

Events like this create space to remember those we have lost, support those who may be struggling, and encourage conversations that can help save lives.

We are incredibly grateful to Ms. Love for her extraordinary generosity and commitment to our CSUB veteran students. 💙💛

In honor and loving memory of her late son, Ms. Love has made a remarkable $52,000 gift to establish a scholarship supporting veterans at CSUB.

This gift is more than a scholarship—it is a lasting legacy. For decades to come, Ms. Love’s generosity will help veteran students pursue their education, achieve their goals, and build brighter futures.

We are deeply honored that she has chosen to remember her son in such a meaningful way. His memory will live on through every veteran student whose journey is made a little easier because of this incredible gift.

From the CSUB Veterans Success Center and the veteran students who will benefit for generations to come, thank you, Ms. Love, for believing in our veterans and investing in their futures. 🇺🇸

A new scholarship at CSUB will give veteran students more financial support to help them earn their degree!

Barbara Love donated $52,000 to the university to establish the Cpl. Charles Anthony Johnson Scholarship Endowment in honor of her son, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who died in 2024.

“I especially love our veterans,” Love said. “I want to do anything that I can to help those that sacrifice to serve our nation, all branches of our armed services. I have the utmost respect for them all.”

The endowment will fund $1,000 scholarships for undergraduate veteran students.

🎓 Celebrating a Major Milestone! 🇺🇸

The CSUB Veterans Success Center was honored to attend Bakersfield College’s 30-Unit Completion Ceremony, celebrating student veterans who have reached the halfway point in their academic program!
Reaching 30 units is an important milestone and a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance these students continue to demonstrate as they work toward completing their degrees.

A special thank you to Bakersfield College for inviting the CSUB Veterans Success Center to be part of this meaningful celebration. We are proud to support our military-connected students and look forward to welcoming those who continue their educational journey at CSUB.

🤿 TRY SCUBA — An Incredible Day in the Pool! 🌊

The CSUB Veterans Success Center was proud to host a special Try Scuba in a Pool experience for disabled veterans in our community!

A huge thank you to Aqua-Vets for providing our veterans with the opportunity to experience scuba diving in a supportive and welcoming environment. Your dedication to creating recreational opportunities for veterans is truly appreciated.

We also want to thank CSUB Athletics for allowing us to use the CSUB pool and helping make this event possible. 💙💛

Events like this are about more than trying something new—they’re about connection, confidence, camaraderie, and creating new experiences together.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success. We are proud to continue building opportunities that bring our veteran community together.

🇺🇸 Remembering. Honoring. Never Forgetting.

The CSUB Veterans Success Center was honored to host a water station in support of the 9/11 Ruck Walk.

Thank you to our veterans who continue to carry forward the promise to never forget—honoring the men and women whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the service members who answered the call in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and memory continue to bring our community together.
We are grateful to have stood alongside our veterans and community members as they walked in remembrance of those who can no longer walk beside us.

We remember their names. We honor their sacrifice. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

2001 remains a day etched into the heart of our nation.

Today, the CSUB Veteran Success Center remembers the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the families forever changed, and the service members who answered our nation’s call in the years that followed.

For many in our military-connected community, the events of 9/11 became part of their own story—shaping a generation of service, sacrifice, and commitment.

As we mark this 25th anniversary, we honor more than a moment in history. We honor the people behind the memories, the courage shown in unimaginable circumstances, and the sacrifices that continued long after that day.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We carry their memory forward. 🇺🇸
