Only help others if you have the cash on hand yourself. Never cosign a loan to "help" someone else, and never loan money to a friend or relative. That just keeps them in debt longer, strains the relationship, and keeps the cycle of destruction going. A loan between family members, or even friends, isn't help. It's a trap for both parties. Family dinners and get-togethers are different when you're sitting down to eat with your creditors instead of just friends or family. If you want to give money to friends or family (and you can afford it), just give them the money. But make sure it’s a gift with no strings attached, not a loan. 12/14/2025

You aren’t obligated to leave your money to your kids. At the same time, I think it’s wrong to assume that leaving them your money will damage them in some way. Wealth always magnifies the character of the person holding it. That includes both their positive and negative traits. The Bible tells us that a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children (Proverbs 13:22). But at the same time, you don’t want your hard-earned money going to fund misbehavior. If you're a parent, one of your jobs is to raise kids who grow into adults with the morals and character to manage money wisely. If you do your job well, then the inheritance you do leave them will truly be a blessing. 08/09/2025

Broke people shouldn’t go to destination weddings. A destination wedding is an excuse for a vacation. It can be a wonderful thing for people who have money. But when broke people go to a destination wedding, you know what you call that? More debt. Because even if you budgeted the money out of your income for it, it’s still money you would have been using to pay off your debt. But seriously, I can promise you, 25 years from now, there’s about a 90% chance that you’ll have zero relationship with these people, and you’re about to go into more debt for their wedding.
