Please join us in congratulating our 2026 scholars! Nicholas Patton is a PharmD candidate attending the UCSF School of Pharmacy. Raised in Visalia, Nicholas has a heart for giving back to his community and advocating for children’s health. In his own words, “Pharmacists are among the most accessible healthcare professionals. In a region such as the San Joaquin Valley, this can mean the only healthcare professional someone has access to.
The impact I ultimately hope to have as a pharmacist in the San Joaquin Valley is to be a trusted healthcare resource who serves with humility and compassion while advancing health equity—giving back to the community that I proudly call home and has given me so much.
This scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing meaningful service to the San Joaquin Valley while focusing fully on becoming the kind of pharmacist my community deserves.”

Please join us in congratulating our 2026 scholars! Rodrigo Tapia-Baca is a PharmD candidate attending the UCSF School of Pharmacy. Growing up in Porterville as the child of farmworkers, Rodrigo has a passion for supporting his community. According to Rodrigo, "The San Joaquin Valley is the heart of agricultural communities and is home to many immigrants. Medication literacy is a real concern, as not every family has someone to help explain at home. I have learned that simply listening and allowing a patient to be heard can make such a large impact on them.
My upbringing has taught me how greatly patients depend on trust and understanding within healthcare. Pharmacy does not only represent medications and treatment, but also the ability to make patients feel supported during vulnerable moments in their lives.
With the support of this scholarship, what once felt like only a dream becomes an achievable reality. A reality where I can advocate for underserved patients throughout the San Joaquin Valley and help ensure families like my own feel supported."
