Register your big kid for the fall Hippo Collection!
Your child will have a great time drumming, singing, moving to new rhythms and engaging in and exploring other instruments, unique music activities, and music games especially designed for older children. This semester, we’ll explore the Hippo Rhythm with drumming patterns based on rhythms used in Gahu, the popular, recreational dance of the Ewe people of Ghana. We’ll learn 20 songs, including “Gahu Ee” a call-and-response song from the Ewe people of Ghana, Togo, and Benin in Western Africa and the traditional Andean folksong, “La vicuñita,” often heard in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina. The “Hip Hop Hippo” rap will let children break out their hip-hop dance moves!
Ages Pre-K through 3rd grade.

How will you know when it’s time for your musical five-year-old to start piano lessons?
Most children—even the obviously musically inclined—can benefit from waiting a little longer to start traditional lessons than you might think. To have a good chance of enjoying and embracing formal music study, a child must have a readiness that goes beyond the traditional prescription of being able to sit still for fifteen minutes, count from 1 to 5, and know the letters A to G. It’s important to consider your child’s temperament, physical development, and level of tonal and rhythmic competence before signing them up for lessons, and to ask yourself what you as a parent want for your child.

Music Together® is a family-centered approach to early childhood music based on child and music development research. Because we know most young children learn through imitation and play, Music Together classes provide families opportunities to joyfully make music together.
Music Together is not performance oriented, rather it’s oriented toward joyful, positive music experiences. We know children learn individually. The classes provide rich musical experiences for young children to soak up and participate in ways they feel comfortable and natural.
The multi-age classes are geared toward children birth to five, and are fun for the whole family! Within each class, you can expect a variety of seated songs, movement songs, instrument play, and/or finger plays.
The song collections intentionally include a wide range of musical elements, varying rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, and tonal structures. The songs are fun for multiple ages–even grown ups!–while offering a rich and varied exposure to music.
Join us for a class or two this summer!! We can’t wait to make music with you!
