The community recently gathered at a special reception to officially welcome Dr. Stacy Pfluger as Bakersfield College's 12th president. During the evening, President Pfluger announced the return of the President’s Scholars Program, renewing a tradition with more than 40 years of history at BC.

Dr. Rick Wright, BC’s 6th president, played an important role in the program’s history by encouraging support from the campus and broader community. His wife, Laurie, recently continued his legacy with a generous gift to the President’s Scholars endowment.

Students participating in the President's Scholars program are selected through an application process, and they must maintain a 3.5 gpa and must be taking at least 12 units per semester in order to continue in the program. Scholars are awarded a $1,000 scholarship each year they are in the program, and they will have the opportunity to participate in leadership activities and to interact with the President.

We are excited to see President Pfluger carry this tradition forward and proud to celebrate the 2026–27 President’s Scholars! 🎓

Thank you to our BC alumni panelists for sharing their career journeys, experiences, and advice during our Navigating Your Career Pathway Lunch & Learn. After the panel, students had the opportunity to connect and network with our alumni.

The BC Alumni Association is proud to partner with BC SGA, Renegade Nexus, Office of Student Life, and Career & Technical Education to provide opportunities like this for our students.

Special thanks to Chevron Central California for sponsoring this event!
