It's our 1st born!
Gerald “Gee” Collins II — Candidate for City of Baker School Board, District 3

For more than 10 years, Gerald “Gee” Collins II has worked with families and students through education, mentorship, and community service.

As a volunteer ACT Coach, Gerald has provided FREE weekly ACT preparation, helping students strengthen their academic skills and prepare for opportunities after high school. Students participating in the program have gone on to earn Louisiana TOPS scholarships, expanding their options for pursuing a college education.

Gerald’s candidacy for the City of Baker School Board, District 3, is rooted in the same principles that have guided his community work: service, integrity, commitment, and a focus on students and families.

In the weeks ahead, we look forward to sharing more about Gerald’s service, his work with young people, and the experiences that have shaped his decision to seek a seat on the City of Baker School Board.

Sow and reap.

Many years ago, we grew fruits and vegetables at Simple Pleasures anything those tiny hands touched yielded a huge harvest.

I thought it was so important to teach the lessons taught to me by Momma Cindy, Papa Jim, and my mom and dad.

When I was lil Desi from Banks...

There was a time when every family we knew, grew a lil something in their backyard. Gerald shared similar stories from his childhood in Clinton, La.

Carrying legacies forward...

When we started Simple Pleasures, we bought that concept to the families we served under the rainbow🌈. We had various gardens all around the property. As I think back, I can't help but thank La. Master Gardeners (Gayle Delaphora), LSU Ag and SU Ag (Milissa Jean Baptiste) for your patience and advice.

Over 10 years later, the land has been calling out to me to do something with it.

One night, I saw a SU Ag application for Small Farmers. Now, I'm no farmer.

Until I call myself one.🤔

So, I applied.

Then, I received a letter of acceptance. 😳

Farmer Desi? Dez the Farmer? Simple Pleasures Farms?

Calling all my babies to answer.

Storytime.

I see this beautiful soul among the crowd.

This seems so familiar like lifetimes, like legacy, like love.

I've come to realize 'that' feeling means that I've probably held you close to my heart and that our hearts shared syncopation for a time.

I've stopped dismissing it as 'weird' and started honoring it as real. It was Simple Pleasures, it was you, it was me, it was us.

Once upon a time around the rainbow.

Hey Jaxon.
