We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that took place at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend yesterday. While we are virtual schools, Oregon is our home, and a tragedy affecting one school in our community impacts us all.

Events like this can bring up many emotions for children and adults alike. Your child's emotional well-being is important, and we want our students and families to know they don't have to navigate difficult feelings alone.

Our advisory teachers and BCS mental health counselors are here to listen and offer support in the coming days. Please don't hesitate to reach out if your child needs someone to talk to or if you need guidance on how to support them during this time.

We are holding the Silver Rail Elementary community, its students, families, and staff in our thoughts.

October is a great time for a school-year check-in.

Are your student's school routines working as well as you hoped? Take a few minutes to check in on attendance, daily schoolwork habits, assignment progress and academic goals.

If something isn't clicking yet, that's OK! Building routines takes time, and you don't have to figure it all out on your own. Your student's Advisory Teacher is here to help identify what's working, work through challenges and keep your student moving forward.

Not all learning takes place in a classroom. Sometimes, it invites students to get hands-on and explore the world around them. And that’s what learning outside the classroom looked like for Baker students this week.

In Central Oregon, students explored the science of flight with the Bend Aero Modelers. They built model airplanes, learned the basics of RC flying on a computer simulator, and took to the runway for real flight time with experienced instructors.

Meanwhile, in Roseburg, students got to squish, splash and explore at Sensory Day in the Park, where learning became messy fun.

Different experiences, new discoveries and lots of opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. That’s what makes field trip days special!

Baker offers reading support for K–3 students and older elementary students. Our Learning Coach can help with book suggestions, guided reading levels, early literacy skills, curriculum choices, and questions about supplemental reading programs.
