Happy New Year and with that here's a quick update on what's happening with the Barracks project:

1) We've been hard at work in the office and are excited because the design is at that great point where things will start moving from paper to actual construction!

2) The first big stage for construction is on the near horizon (date will be announced once finalized), which will be focused on the abatement and stabilization of the main building. As many neighbours know with their own historic buildings, there are a number of hazardous materials that need to be properly taken care of, and one of our top priorities is safety (both for people and the environment)!

3) On the note of safety, we will be needing to keep the drive entrance to the courtyard clear of unattended parked vehicles. This is actually a driveway and the means for fire department access, not to mention with the eventual construction activity we will be needing to be able to move vehicles in and out. There's a new sign that's been posted on the fencing to help denote the area needing to be kept clear. Thanks!

4) Last year the building was made secure with accessible openings either having been boarded or locked. In addition, the fencing was re-erected to help deter our younger neighbours from potentially wondering into a construction zone which may hold risks of injury. We're trying to do our part and would greatly appreciate help from the community to make sure that kids know that for now to avoid the property and that neighbours please not open or reconfigure the perimeter fencing. This is for safety. Thanks!

5) Final note, last week we placed some test material within one of the window frames to confirm its functionality for weatherproofing for later on in the construction phases (we'll want to protect the new floors until the new windows are ready to be installed). The material is different, repurposed sail material, but has great potential given that it is fully LBC and Redlist compliant!

With the new year comes lots of new activity on the horizon for the barracks. We're looking forward to it and we will be posting more regular updates and dates for activity in the future!
