Highland Community College Western Center is in Baileyville, KS to serve students in and around the Brown, Nemaha and Marshall County in Northeast Kansas. The center is part of a Title III Grant. Traditional and non-traditional students alike may choose to live at home while pursuing a college degree. Even high school juniors and seniors can take advantage of our technical programs during the scho

ol day. If you are wanting to expand your horizons and marketability in the fields of Diesel Technology, Industrial Welding, Medical Office Assisting, Building Trades the Western Center is the right place for you. Numerous Allied Health and general education courses leading to certificates and degrees will are offered each semester. Opportunities in Precision Ag, Engineering Graphics, and Manufacturing Technology will be open for enrollment for the Fall of 2016.

Second Year Students Are Putting in the Work!

Our second-year Welding students are right where they belong, in their bays and hard at work!

These students have moved beyond the basics and are continuing to build their skills, tackle more challenging projects, and prepare for what comes next after the Western Center.

There’s nothing quite like seeing a shop full of students who are focused, working hard, and getting better every day.

Our Precision Ag students are taking forklift training VERY seriously this year.

Our AM Precision Ag students decided to stage each other's driving tests to get ready for their forklift certification.

I'm not sure if I was watching an OSHA training exercise or the Home Alone battle plan being put into action...

Either way, we love seeing them take their training seriously and make sure they're prepared to operate equipment safely and confidently.

Safety first, guys! And maybe leave the b***y traps out of the final exam.

We have royalty in the halls!

A HUGE congratulations to our very own Zoey Lockhart, a student in our Precision Ag program, on being crowned Miss Rodeo Topeka!

We couldn't be more proud to have Zoey representing Highland both in the classroom and in the community.

It's not every day you get to say there's a rodeo queen walking the halls of your college! We're pretty lucky to have her.

Congratulations, Zoey! We can't wait to see all the places this title takes you!

Week One: COMPLETE!

And what better way to wrap up the first week of school than with our students back in the shops and getting to work!

Welding, Diesel, and Construction have been busy getting settled in, learning the ropes, and jumping right into the hands-on work that makes Career & Technical Education so much fun.

After a quiet summer, it has been SO good to see the shops full again!

Can you tell it's time for back to school safety classes?!

Our Welding students are getting a hands-on lesson in just how important safety glasses really are!

Students are wearing tape over one eye to simulate what it might be like to live with an injured eye, and let’s just say, navigating the classroom with limited vision is a little harder than it looks!

In Welding, safety isn't just another lesson. It's a skill that can protect you for the rest of your life.

We love finding creative ways to help our students understand why proper safety practices matter!

FIRST DAY = COMPLETE!

And in true first-day fashion… it was WAY too busy to take pictures!

Today the halls were full again — students finding their classrooms, instructors getting everyone settled, lots of questions being answered, and plenty of excitement (and maybe a little first-day chaos ).

After a quiet summer, it was SO good to have our students back at the Western Center!

We’re ready for another great year of hands-on learning, new experiences, and helping students build their futures.

Our instructors are officially back at it! Today they’re on the Highland campus for training, collaborating with colleagues, sharing ideas, and getting ready for another great year.

We always love these days because we get to connect with our Highland peers… but there’s an even bigger reason we’re excited:

Better late than never!

We're a few weekends behind, but we couldn't let fair season pass without giving a shoutout to our amazing Western Center parade crew!

Thank you to everyone who represented Highland Community College at the Marshall County and Nemaha County Fair Parades. Whether you rode along, handed out candy, or simply waved to the crowd, you helped showcase the Western Center and all the opportunities we have to offer.

Community events like these remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such supportive communities. Thank you to everyone who came out, cheered us on, and said hello along the parade routes!
