A new Björklunden online seminar has been added! Paul Cohen will teach The Emergence of Modern Democracy, 1776-1815 October 14-November 11. Classes meets on Zoom on Wednesdays, 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The 250th anniversary of American democracy would seem a good time to reconsider its historical era. This seminar will explore the democratic revolutions of the 18th and early 19th centuries in North America, France, and South America. We will discuss, among other documents, the American Declaration of Independence of 1776, the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen of 1789, and Simon Bolivar’s Jamaica Letter of 1815.

It's been a remarkable week at Björklunden with Terry Moran offing a seminar on the Midterms, Jerald Podair and Jon Greenwald presenting The American Revolution at 250, and outside hundreds of visitors came to the Boynton Chapel (currently undergoing restoration) as part of the Door County Medical Center Auxiliary's 65th House & Garden Walk. We were very proud to be part of this event benefitting mental health services in our community.

Lawrence University's north campus Björklunden proudly announces the 2026 winners of The Richard Warch Outstanding Service to Björklunden Award, Fran and Barb Michaels for their remarkable volunteerism; additionally the winner of the The Winifred Boynton Creative Spirit Award is James T.
