Repertoire: Lesson/Theory Books are decided upon before or during the first lesson. They may be purchased individually or through Jennifer. The costs of the books are not included in the lesson fee. She does require all students to have a real, full size and key piano to practice on each week, a metronome, a music book bag (something to keep your books together each week to and from lessons), a college-ruled notebook (to write down lesson assignments and homework, a small binder (for copy-music and sheet music), a folder (for homework assignments), and a set of flash cards (if beginning to learn musical terms, theory, and notation). These things can be discussed thoroughly during the first lesson.

Dear Studio Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I share some personal news. After 26 years of teaching piano, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to retire from teaching.

Over the next several months, I will be undergoing a series of surgeries in a multi-step process that will require extended periods of rest and recovery. Because of the uncertainty and the likelihood of frequent lesson cancellations, I feel it would not be fair to my students or their families to continue in this way.

This has not been an easy decision. I am heartbroken at the thought of letting anyone down, especially the many students who have brought such joy, talent, and inspiration into my life over the years. But after much prayer and deep reflection with my husband, we truly believe this is the right decision for this season of life—a season that calls for rest, healing, and new beginnings.

In recent months, I’ve also been exploring other creative endeavors that align better with my current health and family priorities. While change is never easy, I feel peace about stepping away from the studio to pursue these new paths.

To every student and family I’ve had the privilege to know—thank you. Your trust, your commitment, and your music have filled my life with meaning and pride. I will forever carry the memories of our time together, and I have no doubt that each of my students will go on to do incredible things, whether in music or beyond.

I will miss your faces more than words can say. It has truly been one of the greatest honors of my life to be your teacher.

With deepest gratitude and love,
Jennifer McVay
