Getting caught isn’t always a mistake. Sometimes it’s the experiment.
Try the technique. See what happens. Get caught. Figure out why. Make an adjustment. Try it again.
Hypothesize. Experiment. Record. Adjust. Repeat.
That’s how you troubleshoot Jiu Jitsu.
If you only use the techniques you already know work, you might win more rounds in practice, but you’re limiting how much you can learn.
Practice is the lab.
Getting caught is data.
