Good evening, Charger families. This is Dr. Kirby Maness, Principal of Ayden-Grifton High School, with some important information and reminders for the week of October 5th.
Friday, October 2nd, marked the end of our first marking period. As we begin the second marking period, we encourage students and parents to review academic progress and communicate with teachers about any questions or concerns. Students, this is an opportunity to build on your successes, set goals, and stay focused on attendance, completing assignments, and taking advantage of support during ReCharge.
This week is HBCU Week, with opportunities for students to learn about historically Black colleges and universities. Planned activities include college representative visits and a field trip to Elizabeth City State University. Some activities are tentative, so students should listen for announcements with confirmed details.
On Monday, October 5th, the Charger Club will meet at 7:00 p.m. in the media center. We encourage families interested in supporting our Charger athletic programs to attend.
Students interested in wrestling are reminded that preseason open mats begin Monday, October 5th, and will be held on scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout October from 3:50 until 5:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gym. Attendance is highly recommended for students interested in wrestling who are not currently participating in a fall sport.
On Thursday, October 8th, we will host FAFSA and Financial Planning Night from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m in the Media Center. We encourage students and families, especially our seniors, to attend and learn more about planning for college expenses and financial aid.
On Friday, October 9th, we will have makeup pictures. Students who missed their original picture opportunity should listen for announcements with additional instructions.
We also have several opportunities to support our Charger student-athletes this week. On Monday, girls tennis hosts Greene Central at 4:00, volleyball hosts South Central at 4:30, and soccer hosts Farmville Central at 5:00. On Tuesday, cross country travels to Farmville at 4:00, girls tennis hosts North Pitt at 4:00, and volleyball hosts Tarboro at 4:30. On Wednesday, girls tennis hosts East Carteret at 4:00, soccer hosts Kinston at 5:00, and JV football hosts J.H. Rose at 6:30. On Thursday, girls tennis travels to East Carteret and volleyball travels to Farmville Central, both at 4:00. We close out the week on Friday with varsity football traveling to Beddingfield for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
Looking ahead, parent-teacher conferences will take place on Monday, October 12th, from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. If you would like to meet with one or more of your child’s teachers, please call the school and ask for our registrar, Mrs. Tripp, or email her at [email protected] to schedule your conference. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and work together to support a successful second marking period.
Also, mark your calendars for October 12th through October 16th, when AGHS will participate in the Chick-fil-A Pitt County High School Homecoming and Spirit Week Showdown. To participate, dine at Chick-fil-A University Boulevard, located at 320 SW Greenville Boulevard, write Ayden-Grifton High School on your receipt, and place it in the designated basket. The school with the highest total spending during its designated week will receive a $1,000 donation to its athletics program.
