It's Friday. You know, a long weekend, leaves changing into a fall fest of color more & more each day, a hurricane that keeps strengthening as it heads up the coast at the end of this long weekend. Students are overjoyed to be home a while, colleges are gearing up for campus visits and parents are taking advantage of some time lumped together to actually do a visit or two.
This is the perfect moment to ask...especially living in the center of the college going northeast......is college STILL worth it?
Colleges are being turned upside down by our federal government, AI continues to threaten our states & jobs, and hefty price tags on branded colleges (who incidently, are having to send fists full of dollars to DC), financial woes of colleges that have been incredible for a hundred years being ignored more & more as obsolete in favor of big sports, big parties, less money & more
sunshine.....what else can we add to all that is happening?
I think it was said earlier this morning, gratitude.
It's not Pollyanna, it's looking at what we do have, faculty of colleges present & former that believe that our neighboring state, Massachusetts...still remains a gem regardless of what is occurring.
None of us have a crystal ball, but we need to stay positive, ban together as New England & Mid-Atlantic states & ride out the storm.
As college consultants we keep our ears pitched for changes in college admissions each year, as citizens we need to do the same & be grateful we have the incredible schools, colleges, cities and states to support. Being grateful is also being thankful for all we have, rather then consider alternatives. There is nothing we don't offer here that can't be found miles away from home.
Please read the following article that is so profound & articulate in explaining what really needs to be understood.
No American city has more riding on what happens next in higher ed.
