The River Hawks headed west Tuesday for a league meet against Pavilion/Perry, Oakfield-Alabama and Haverling. The course’s rolling hills, surrounded by beautiful autumn colors, provided a perfect backdrop for another evening of excellent racing.

On the girls’ side, Sarah W. followed up her strong performance last week with a 3rd place finish in a time of 23:13, battling tough competition from two Oakfield-Alabama runners. Lilianna B. was close behind, finishing 4th in a field of 23 runners with a time of 23:14. Both girls continued to show consistency and determination against a competitive field.

The boys delivered another outstanding team performance, earning three team victories against some very strong competition. Luigi M. led the way, capturing 1st place with a time of 18:14. Owen H. followed with a 3rd place finish (19:04) while Hunter P. placed 7th (20:16).

Senior Mitchell B. finished 9th, passing two Oakfield-Alabama runners during the final mile to help strengthen the team’s scoring. Eli B. finished 24th, adding valuable points to the River Hawks’ winning effort.

Reid M. also had a fantastic evening, shaving five minutes off his personal-best time - an incredible improvement and a great example of the hard work these athletes continue to put in!

The Harriers will be back on the road Tuesday, Oct. 20 for a league meet at Genesee County Park. Race time is 4:45 p.m.

D’Youville University’s Sprint Football squad may want to consider changing its name to Avon West!

Five of our alumni are competing at the next level for the Saints for their fall 2026 season: Wes Farley (Class of 2025), Emmanuel Calderon-Diaz (Class of 2025), Blayden Borsching (Class of 2026), Aidan Lindstrom (Class of 2026) and Evan Blye (Class of 2026).

The D’Youville Saints compete in the Division II Collegiate Sprint Football League and are 0-4 on the season, but our former players have been putting in the work and making an impact on the field.

• Blayden Borsching led the Saints in tackles with 11 and also had an interception during their game against Chestnut Hill this past weekend.

• In that same game, Wes Farley blocked a field goal and carried the ball 6 times for 14 yards, though his prolific game so far this season came against St. Thomas Aquinas when he rushed 12 times for 31 yards and added five receptions for 10 yards.

• Evan Blye saw the most action during D’Youville’s game against Cornell at the end of September. Playing on a limited snap count, Blye completed four passes for 60 yards to lead the team in passing.

The Saints are next in action Monday, Oct. 23 when they’ll travel to Rockville Centre on Long Island to face the Lions of Molloy University.

It’s School Board Recognition Week in New York State and we’re taking this opportunity to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the individuals who help guide and support Avon Central Schools!

Our Board of Education members — Steve Comeau, Kyle Montague, Karen Vanderbilt, Rebecca Honan, Kristen Hill, Barrett Comeau and Rodney George — generously give their time and energy to help ensure our district continues to be a place where students can learn, grow and thrive.

Serving on a school board is no small undertaking. It requires countless hours of meetings, difficult decisions and a willingness to tackle complex challenges, often with little recognition. Yet our board members continue to answer the call, putting the needs of our students, staff and school community at the forefront of their work.

Their leadership, commitment and thoughtful stewardship help shape the direction of our district and create meaningful opportunities for our students, both in the classroom and beyond.

Please join us in extending a heartfelt thank you to these dedicated individuals for their service to Avon Central Schools.

We’re grateful for all you do to make our district a better place!

Tune in at 7 p.m. for one half of our Friday night football doubleheader in a rematch of last year's Section V Class D final. Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen (3-2) has dropped two in a row, while Avon (3-2) got back on track last week. Who will score this key win? Mike Rose will have the call as these two Class D contenders clash at GCC.
