Please welcome Mr. Silvia to the special education team at AMHS! Mr. Silvia brings multiple years of experience in special education from a paraprofessional, to a long term substitute and Extended School Year Teacher. He is an avid hockey and baseball fan, and you will often find him attending Providence Bruins games as a season ticket holder, and Cape Cod baseball league games (or supporting any of the local Boston sports teams on tv). To unwind, Mr. Silvia enjoys fishing and going for walks/hikes with his forever energetic 7 year old black lab named Baxter. Mr. Silvia is excited to join AMHS!

Please welcome Ms. Mordini to Panther Nation! Ms. Mordini is joining us this year after spending a number of years teaching at Apponequet Regional High school. She loves hiking and traveling, and recently spent two weeks exploring Banff National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park. Ms. Mordini is an avid reader and set a reading challenge for herself every year. Her goal for 2026 is to read 53 books. She is completely obsessed with her 8-year-old Goldendoodle, Milo. If you ask her about him, there’s a 100% chance she will show you pictures! A huge New England Patriots fan, you’ll find her at almost every home game during football season. Ms. Mordini spent the past year living in Texas, and is excited to be back in New England and call Massachusetts home once again and join the AMHS school community this year!

We are so excited to welcome back Miss Bennet to AMHS! Miss Bennett is a very proud art teacher who has spent the last two years working in Fall River, MA. She is very excited to be returning to AMHS, where she was an art student teacher in 2023. Outside of school, Miss Bennett runs, rock climbs, knits, spends time with friends, and is part of a pretty mid-tier (but spirited) trivia team. She got her BFA in Photography and her Masters of Art Teaching degrees both from MassArt, and is looking forward to making art with her awesome students-to-be. Welcome Miss Bennett!

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Robertson to AMHS! Mrs. Robertson is a Massachusetts native from Somerset who spent 10 years living in the Mid-Atlantic. A recent graduate of Simmons University, she is now a certified, licensed librarian. Mrs. Robertson now lives in Quincy with Mr. Robertson, a lawyer, their son, a rising 4th grader in Quincy Public Schools, and two cats, Shiitake and Scarlett. Besides being a librarian, she loves spending time with her family, spending time outside, listening to loud rock music, playing RPG video games, and reading lots of science fiction and fantasy. Her most recent favorites are The Girl Who Drank the Moon, by Kelly Barnhill, and Feed by M.T. Anderson. She can’t wait to hear about everyone’s favorite books and to help everyone at AMHS become the savviest information seekers and users.

Please join us in welcoming a new face to AMHS, Mr. Shara! Mr. Shara is a special education teacher who is new to Avon Middle High School this year. Shara is originally from Ohio and received his Bachelor’s in English Literature back around the turn of the century. After moving to Massachusetts in 2004, he spent several years in New Hampshire and holds the title of “World’s Best Camp Director” from Camp Wildcat at UNH. He received his Masters in Education while working as a paraprofessional in 2015 and has worked with both Life Skills and Inclusion classrooms during his career. Mr. Shara is a college and pro football fanatic who devotes way too much energy and passion to the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns among about a half dozen other teams. Additionally, he enjoys cooking, listening to more music than anyone he knows, Legos, gaming, reading, painting (badly), petting dogs, and being outside as much as possible. After nine years in the Freetown-Lakeville district, Shara is looking forward to meeting new people and helping all students succeed at AMHS.

Please join us on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM for District Arts Day! Butler Elementary and Avon Middle High School have joined forces to bring you an afternoon full of music, drama, art, an art sale, creative writing, and a special mural grand opening. This event is free and open to the public. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. We look forward to seeing you there!

Last week, High school students who are interested in the Carpenter Union took a visit to North Atlantic States Carpenters Training site. Student learned about the safety precaution of working in Carpentry and students leaned how to build an interior wall.
