Happy Juneteenth, Avon Park! 🖤❤💚💛
The first permanent settler in Avon Park was Oliver Martin Crosby, a Connecticut native who moved to the area in 1884 to study the wildlife of the Everglades.
Welcome to the official page for the City of Avon Park; where we share city updates, community events, local highlights, interesting history, and the people who make Avon Park charming! 🌅🚂🏡⚾️ By 1886, as President of the Florida Development Company, he recruited settlers to the area, many of whom were from England including many from the town of Stratford-upon-Avon in England, who gave the town its name and making it the oldest City in Highlands County.

The Highlands County burn ban was not extended and expired at 11:59 p.m. on June 16, 2026.
Although restrictions are no longer in place, Highlands County Fire Rescue continues encouraging residents to use extreme caution outdoors due to ongoing dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk.
Recent rainfall has helped improve conditions, but vegetation and deeper soil layers may still remain dry in many areas.
Residents are encouraged to:
✔️ Use caution with outdoor burning
✔️ Keep water sources nearby
✔️ Avoid burning during windy conditions
✔️ Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials
✔️ Stay alert to changing weather conditions

Shoutout to Sebastian Villanueva and Jayshawn Pinion for going above and beyond! 👏
Last month, a resident called to share a heartwarming story. While getting ready to take his son to school, they stepped outside just as the garbage truck arrived. Sebastian and Jayshawn noticed the young boy watching the truck in amazement and learned that he has a special interest in garbage trucks.
The two took time out of their route to show him the truck, explain how it works, and make his day. 🚛✨ The boy was thrilled, and his father was so touched by their kindness that he became emotional while sharing the story.
Thank you, Sebastian and Jayshawn, for demonstrating outstanding customer service, compassion, and community spirit. Your actions made a lasting impression and are a wonderful example of what community service is all about! 👏😊
