SFSC Library is observing World Mental Health Day ALL Day on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026.

Please find the time to take a brain break, choose from one of our highlighted short story collections (or ask a staff member for a recommendation) and find a quiet spot to unplug and unwind.

Additionally, we also have a jigsaw puzzle under construction, blank coloring pages with colored pencils or markers to fill in, and a collection of board games and card games to be played.

Banned Books Week 2026

The South Florida State College (SFSC) Library joins the American Library Association, as well as publishers, authors, and intellectual freedom advocates around the world in celebrating Banned Books Week from Oct. 4–10.

Every year, books are challenged, banned, or restricted around the country in libraries, bookstores, and schools. The weeklong celebration is intended to raise awareness and celebrate the fact that, thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, and others, the vast majority of these books continue to be available.

SFSC Library challenges people to go on a Mystery Date with a Banned Book and check out a banned or challenged book. This year, the Library offers a chance to test your trivia knowledge and see why books are banned and challenged at the same time with a “Why Were They Banned” flipboard.

Books challenged included classics from “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck to “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain, as well as more modern books, including “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and graphic novels such as “Y: The Last Man” by Brian K. Vaughan, “Bone. Vol. 1: Out from Boneville” by Jeff Smith, and “Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood” by Marjane Satrapi.
