The first home Women’s Cross Country meet was a success! 🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏽‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️

The four participating teams were SFSC, College of Central Florida, Lake Sumter State College, and New College of Florida.

Melina Cardona, Panther sophomore, won in 20:47.
SFSC runners were in the top 15, four of which were in the top seven.

Melina was followed by Ezmeralda Alamia in fourth, Carlie Eaton in fifth, Azariah Wroy in sixth, and Josselyn Lopez in 14th!

It was a great day to be a Panther! 🐾

At today’s monthly District Board of Trustees (DBOT) meeting, Mike Austin, coordinator of Criminal Justice programs, was presented with a resolution for his upcoming retirement and Steve Ashworth introduced his team as they were all recognized for a stellar accreditation visit.

In addition, Terry Atchley was nominated to continue as DBOT chair, and John Eason was nominated to continue as vice chair.

On Aug. 18, Irene, Isaac, and Decquon attended the DeSoto County College Fair while Dr. Mott, Melissa, and Dr. Carter were at the Hardee County College Fair, and Sofia, Dina, and Dolores participated in the Highlands County College Fair. Then on Aug. 20, Sofia and Alex attended the Frostproof College Fair in Polk County. 📚

South Florida State College (SFSC) graduated 16 Practical Nursing (PN) program students in a traditional pinning ceremony on Thursday, July 30 in the Alan Jay Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts on the Highlands Campus in Avon Park.

SFSC offers an Associate in Science degree in Nursing (ADN) program for students interested in becoming registered nurses in two formats: a two-year Generic-RN program and a one-year Transition-LPN to RN program. The College also offers a fully online Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

On Thursday, July 23, South Florida State College (SFSC) honored 13 of its Radiography graduates in a traditional pinning ceremony on the Highlands Campus in Avon Park. The graduates have earned their Associate in Science (A.S.) in Radiography.

Upon completing SFSC’s two-year A.S. degree in Radiography, graduates can work as certified radiologic technologists by passing the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national examination. Radiologic technologists work in hospitals and clinics performing diagnostic imaging examinations, such as X-rays and MRIs.

South Florida State College (SFSC) has made the difficult decision to permanently close the Jacaranda Restaurant within the The Hotel Jacaranda. The decision, approved by the District Board of Trustees, follows careful consideration of the restaurant’s ongoing financial losses and the College’s responsibility to use its resources and facilities effectively and efficiently.

We recognize that the Jacaranda Restaurant has held a special place in the community and that many residents and visitors have fond memories of dining there. We understand that this closure will be disappointing to many, and we are grateful for the support the Restaurant has received over the years.
