🍋🧱🎨 AHSTW FBLA had a blast at AHSTW STEM Night!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to run a virtual lemonade stand, sample lemonade with a shot of flavor, get creative with STEM-themed coloring pages, and build at our LEGO station!

Our elementary and middle school students brought plenty of imagination and enthusiasm. We have some future entrepreneurs in the making! 💡📈

Accounting 1 took learning to the Monopoly board on Friday!

AHSTW students took a break from their regular class routine to play Monopoly and apply what they’ve learned about net worth and cash flow. Buying property, collecting rent, and paying expenses brought those accounting concepts into play!

Who knew a trip around the board could double as an accounting lesson?

💰 Money Matters Friday with AHSTW FBLA!

This week’s topic: A Yotta Trouble

What happens when your savings app shows a balance, but you can’t access your money? This week, AHSTW FBLA is sharing Next Gen Personal Finance’s FinCap Friday episode about Yotta and the importance of knowing who actually holds your savings.

Yotta customers experienced problems accessing their money following the bankruptcy of Synapse, a company connecting financial apps with banks. The FDIC explains that deposit insurance does not cover the bankruptcy of a nonbank company.

🔎 Questions to consider:
• Is the app a bank, or does it partner with one?
• What protections apply to your money?
• Do you keep statements and transaction confirmations?

Last week, AHSTW FBLA hosted Mr. Cory Maassen from Midstates Bank for a conversation with students about banking careers and how to recognize and prevent fraud. 🏦

Cory shared practical examples that helped students connect what they learn in class to financial decisions they may face in everyday life.

💰 Introducing Money Matters Friday!

AHSTW FBLA is excited to launch a new project for our school community. Each Friday morning, FBLA members will share a short email about a money topic, often featuring a resource from Next Gen Personal Finance’s FinCap Friday series. They’ll also share the topics on social media.

Our goal is to help teachers, staff, and students feel more comfortable learning about and discussing money. We’ll share information and practical tips, however, this is NOT to be considered personal financial advice.

This week’s question: Why is money so hard to talk about? Conversations about money can feel uncomfortable, but asking questions and sharing what we learn can help us make more informed decisions.
