Want to learn more? Located less than 16 miles from the north side of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Oak Farm Montessori School opened its doors to students on January 24, 2000 with 20 students and is now proud of a whole school enrollment of over 400. The school is located on a 150+ acre campus in Avilla, Indiana. The vast property allow

s the students to explore in a variety of environments; including both farmland and a natural woodland. The school has a campus effect and consists of six classroom buildings, (2) Related Art buildings, a Wellness Center, Bike Shop and Maintenance building:

The Victorian Farmhouse (0-6 year olds)
The Red Barn North & Red Barn South (6-9 year olds)
Upper Elementary (9-12 year olds)
Middle School (12-15 year olds)
High School (15-18 year olds)

The school is committed to giving students the skills that they will need to succeed in the real world. Our children need more than a solid academic foundation. They also require the learning skills to enable them to adapt to a rapidly changing society. Oak Farm Montessori recognizes, and takes seriously, the opportunities to be a positive influence on the kind of adult that a child will one day become. We teach students to think, not simply to memorize the right answers, because we are convinced that learning the right answers is not enough.

What is Montessori education, really?

If you've heard the word "Montessori" but aren't sure what sets it apart from traditional schooling, here's the short version:

Montessori is a child-centered approach developed over a century ago by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician who studied how children actually learn โ€” not how we assume they should. Instead of desks facing a chalkboard, you'll find hands-on materials, mixed-age classrooms, and students moving through carefully designed activities at their own pace.

The heart of it? Kids are trusted to be capable, curious, and self-directed โ€” with teachers guiding rather than lecturing. The goal isn't just academic achievement, but raising confident, independent thinkers who love learning for its own sake.

At Oak Farm Montessori, we live this out every day โ€” come see it in action.

We love PBS! ๐Ÿ’™

A huge thank-you to PBS Fort Wayne for donating a stack of Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood books to our summer campers here at Oak Farm Montessori! Our kiddos have already been diving in, and it's the perfect fit for our community โ€” Daniel Tiger's gentle lessons on kindness, patience, and working through big feelings line up beautifully with the values we teach every day.

Thank you for investing in our campers and helping fill their summer with great stories!

Earlier this season, Oak Farm Montessori student Cameron Geegh took a line drive to the face during a baseball game โ€” breaking his nose and giving him a concussion. He needed surgery to repair the damage. But instead of sitting out, Cameron showed up to every single game and practice, cheering on his team (the Flamingos!) in a flamingo mascot costume until he was cleared to play again.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps caught wind of it and they invited Cameron to throw the ceremonial first pitch at their game on July 21st.

Way to go, Cameron! We love your resilience and dedication!

Big week for Oak Farm Montessori students, the Wolheters, at the LaGrange County 4-H Fair!

It was hot, it was long, and it was full of the kind of lessons you can only learn in the show ring. Here's how they did:

Reese โ€” Grand Champion Pony, Champion AOB Market Pig, 3rd Overall Cross Barrow, and closed out her year with her farewell speech as the 2025 LaGrange County Fair Princess.

Bre โ€” 3rd Pony, 2nd in Premier Showmanship in Horses, Reserve Champion AOB Market Pig, plus class wins with both her pig and her starter calf.

Parker โ€” Reserve Grand Champion Pony, Reserve Champion Duroc, and a division win with his starter calf.

So proud of these three for the work, the early mornings, and the hard-won ribbons. Congratulations, Wolheter family!

Learning Doesn't Stop When School's Out!

At Oak Farm Montessori School, one of the hallmarks of our Portrait of a Graduate is being a Lifelong Learnerโ€”someone who actively seeks new experiences, explores their interests, and embraces opportunities for personal growth. This summer, several of our high school students are doing just that!

Ella Lane attended Forensic Science Camp at Indiana Wesleyan University, where she explored the fascinating world of crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and forensic analysis. Through hands-on experiences, Ella gained a deeper understanding of careers in forensic science while discovering how science and critical thinking work together to solve real-world problems.

Beckitt Lowe participated in the Pre-College Business Program at Butler University, where he collaborated with peers to learn about entrepreneurship, leadership, marketing, and business strategy. The experience provided valuable insight into the world of business while helping Beckitt further explore career pathways and develop skills that will serve him well in the future.

Sullivan Fisher and Cohen McCreery attended the Indiana State Police Youth Leadership Camp at Trine University, an immersive week-long program focused on leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, and careers in law enforcement. Through hands-on activities and mentorship from Indiana State Police officers, they strengthened their leadership skills while gaining a firsthand look at professions dedicated to serving others.

Sullivan also spent part of his summer serving as a camp counselor at the Indiana DNR Camp in Silver Lake, where he mentored younger campers including his own brother, led outdoor activities, and developed valuable leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. His experience reflects a commitment to service while reinforcing his passion for working with others and exploring careers connected to the outdoors.

These experiences are more than summer activitiesโ€”they are opportunities for our students to discover new passions, build confidence, and make informed decisions about their future goals. We are proud to see our students embracing challenges, pursuing their interests, and living out what it means to be a Lifelong Learner.

We can't wait to see where their journeys take them next! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

Congratulations to Helen, Madelyn, and Louisa, three Oak Farm Montessori High School students who represented our community at Hoosier Girls State this summer at Trine University.

These young women spent the week immersed in leadership, civic engagement, and the democratic process through a hands-on mock government experience. During the week, Madelyn served as Mayor of her city; Louisa held several leadership positions, including Prosecuting Attorney, Vice Precinct Committeeman, and City Deputy Clerk; and Helen served as County Judge for her mock city.

We celebrate each of these young women for embracing this opportunity and for representing OFMS with curiosity, confidence, and leadership.
