ππ₯ JAG Students Explore a Career in Firefighting! π₯π
Our JAG students had the exciting opportunity to welcome Falecia Watson, a firefighter with the Bolivar City Fire Department, as a guest speaker!
Falecia shared her educational journey and the steps she took to become a firefighter. She gave students an inside look at the many responsibilities that come with the job, including responding to residential and commercial fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, animal rescues, severe weather events, and community outreach.
π©βπ Did you know? Firefighters at her department work 48 hours on duty followed by 96 hours off! During each shift, two firefighters are assigned to the engine and two to rescue. Their days are filled with responding to emergencies, inspecting equipment, completing reports, and participating in ongoing training.
π§― Hands-On Learning!
Falecia brought her firefighting gear for students to explore, including a thermal imaging camera! Students also had the opportunity to get hands-on experience practicing with a CPR manikin.
Experiences like these help our JAG students connect classroom learning to real-world careers while gaining a better understanding of the skills, dedication, teamwork, and courage required in public service.
π A huge THANK YOU to Falecia Watson for taking the time to share her knowledge, experiences, and passion for firefighting with our students! We appreciate your service to the community and your willingness to inspire the next generation!
