Can you guess what breed(s) are the smart ones?

The smart ones came over to be hosed down, stand in the shade, & indulge in the fan the whole time I chose to stand with them. Not even half the herd!

The other goobers stood in the sun the entire time. One went to a hay station to eat in peace.

All were sweating, a couple slightly flaring nostrils.

Questions I have for you:

1. How do you keep your horses cool in 150+ heat index days?

2. Are yours goobers like ours?
***Bonus if you can explain why they choose the BLARING SUN over shade with a sprinkler, water buffet, & fan.

3. Can you guess the breeds of each of the 4 horses that came to indulge like smart ponies do? They’re tricky!
*Hint: 2/3 breeds are hot blooded

4. How do you check to see if a horse is beginning to overheat or overheated?

𝙇𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨𝙣’𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨.
Especially in the horse world.

We’re often taught that responsibility means defending our choices.
That confidence means never questioning ourselves.
That experience means pushing through.

But defensiveness doesn’t tell us what the horse is feeling.
This article is an invitation to notice
when explanation replaces curiosity
and control replaces connection.

Because stewardship doesn’t ask,
“Am I right?”
It asks,
“What is my horse telling me?”

When a horse evades or reacts negatively to being saddled—it’s a clear sign to have a deeper look into what they’re telling you.

No amount of blatant discomfort (which leads to compensation & pain) is worth it.

I stopped riding — progress didn’t stop 🎉

I haven’t practiced consistently at all this year.

No daily hour+ long rides. No trendy drills. No stressing over what to do next for something to stick.

And fitness is still adequate—EVERY. SINGLE. RIDE.

Here’s the truth nobody tells you: true progress requires dedication to functional movement. Framing doesn’t. You build it once, right, and it works in turnout, competition, and even in rest.

The difference isn’t luck or excessive training. It’s the exercise itself—the intention, the structure, the balance, the specific things that creates a partnership and lasting results.

This will change the way you look at groundwork.

“This course is the definition of keep it simple stupid — it felt like the groundwork instantly transformed not only my horses body, but my own riding and understanding of the horses muscles. It’s so easy to follow that when I first started doing it I was worried I wouldn’t see results but low and behold just a few days a week and two weeks in I started to see some major changes. To really make the most of the conditioning course I also had a one-on-one lesson with her that really put the bow on the present for me. Lexi’s teaching style is extremely easy to understand and what she teaches , I believe to be foundational for horse longevity. I don’t think my horse would look as good as he does without her help, and I have made lessons with her a priority in both my and my horses life.” —Chloe

Inside the Groundwork Conditioning Course, I give you the keys, the exercises, and the foundation. $50 to grab it today.

Bitless: When a horse throws their head, gets behind or pushes against any pressure—let that be your sign to look deeper.

This is a sign of discomfort or inability to perform a request— NOT a capable horse.
