β οΈ ATTENTION FELLOW BUSINESS OWNERS β οΈ
At Onyx Defense Academy, we teach people to be protectors β and that mindset doesn't stop at the range. It applies to everyday threats too, including ones that come through your inbox.
We recently received an inquiry from someone claiming to be a local couple interested in fi****ms training. It looked legitimate at first β but when we responded, they insisted on communicating only through Zoom and refused any other form of contact.
We declined and did some research. This is a known and GROWING scam targeting small business owners. Here's how it works:
π΄ A "potential client" sends a professional-looking inquiry
π΄ Once you respond, they insist on a Zoom call β and on sending YOU the link
π΄ When you click their link, malware is immediately downloaded to your device
π΄ This can give them access to your accounts, data, and financial information
Red flags to watch for:
β
Overly generic inquiry with no specific details
β
Refusal to communicate by phone
β
Insistence that THEY send the Zoom link
β
Repetitive or oddly worded responses
If someone insists on Zoom only β always use YOUR OWN link from your verified Zoom account, and never click a meeting link sent to you by someone you don't know.
Stay sharp out there. Predators don't always look the way you expect.
