Happy Black History Month! In addition to learning about African American heroes and icons like Barbara Jordan, Dr. King and Rosa Parks, we also read “Trombone Shorty” by Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. We sang and danced to a video of his performance at the White House in 2015!

Casey Crocs attended an amazing performance by the Great Promise Dancers and we also learned about powwows and storytelling traditions for Native American Heritage Month. We read “Coyote: A Trickster Tale From The American Southwest/ Coyote: un cuento folclórico del sudoeste de los Estados Unidos” by Gerald McDermott.

Casey’s STEAM Pumpkin Drop 2024 was a “SMASHING” success! Thank you to all the Casey Crocs (staff and students) that participated. Special thanks to the Neighborhood Longhorns and HEB for providing yummy donuts for all participants. 🍩 🎃.

It’s GT Lunch Bunch Day in the library! Periodically, students identified as “Gifted and Talented” (GT) and “Talent Explore” (TE) are invited to learn how to play chess and build community as a grade level cohort cluster.

For our Hispanic Heritage Month biography, we read “A Girl Named Rosita: The Life of Rita Moreno: Actor, Singer, Dancer, Trailblazer!/ “Una niña llamada Rosita: La Historia de Rita Moreno: ¡Actriz, Cantante, Bailarina, Pionera!” by Anika Aldamuy Denise. Rita Moreno is the first and only Latina to win the Emmy, Grammy, Tony and Oscar (EGOT)!

September 15th - October 15th is National Hispanic Heritage Month! Casey Crocodiles celebrated by reading “Playing Lotería/El juego de la Lotería” by René Colato Laínez. We also played a couple of kid-friendly games of lotería!
