On this day in 2017, the Senate of the state of Texas recognized May 9th as the Texas Medical Association Ernest and Sarah Butler Awards for Excellence in Science Teaching Day!
Each year, these awards recognize and reward Texas science teachers at the K-12 school levels.
These awards were created in 1990 to honor elementary, middle, and high school teachers who share their energy and enthusiasm for science through creative and innovative methods to cultivate student interest in medicine and science.
