Dovetails got you down? Join furniture maker S***a Yamaguchi for his evening hand cut dovetails class. Meeting on Monday nights for four weeks starting April 27th. Interested in structure building? Join instructor Patrick Moore for a five day timber framing workshop next month. We will be building a large outdoor greenhouse for a south Austin residence. In five days we’ll go from plans on a page to raising the structure, so there will never be a dull moment! Only a few spots left so if you’ve been eyeing it now is the time to register.

As we wind now 2025 we’re reflecting on some of the projects we’ve made, and the pals along the way. ASF doesn’t exist without you all. We can’t wait to see what you make this year. We’ve been working really hard on the 2026 schedule and have some amazing craftspeople coming this year, with a few more big classes dropping soon. If there’s something you’ve been wanting to learn, or a teacher you’re wanting to meet let us know in the comments and we might just make it happen.

Want to flex those design muscles? Join for Beginning Furniture Design, one of our newest offerings at the school. In this evening class students will not be doing woodworking, but instead devote time to imagining and refining their designs. This class is appropriate for beginners and seasoned woodworkers, but you do need to have some sort of drafting method. In Introduction to Hand Tools, Curtis Turner will walk you through basic set up, usage and sharpening of common woodworking tools. Decipher the different angles and hone some of your skills in this weekend class. While we have tools to practice on in the shop, we recommend bringing whatever you have at home to get some hands on experience. We’ll talk about what to look for when buying tools second hand. Join artist and woodworker Kate Casey of for a six day, in person class at the school this February. In Sculptural Coopering: Artifacts of Play we’ll explore modern forms through exploration, play, and process.
