Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities is a year-long course designed to utilize partnerships between the community and students as they explore the world of business.

Today we visited Harty Mechanical who is one of our newest investors! It was a great morning with a special introduction from one of our students who just happens to be the daughter of the owners, Patrick and Angie Harty.

Harty Mechanical was started in Austin in 1979 by Patrick's parents and was purchased by Patrick and Angie in 2013. At that time they had 35 employees. They have since moved to a brand new location as of 2024 and have grown to 107 employees.

Quick facts from the visit:
⚙️Mechanical contractors cover: heating and cooling, piping, plumbing, controls and equipment
⚙️Their main areas of service focus on k-12 schools, apartments and hotels/hospitality
⚙️Their main service areas focus on the triangle of Minneapolis/St.Paul to Mankato to Rochester
⚙️College is one path, but not the only path
⚙️Communication is key with their customers and internally as a staff

It was a fantastic morning of learning and insights, saw three CEO parents, enjoyed delicious donuts, and new shirts!

Tuesday was our first mentor day of the year and it was a great day! Students shared about the badge project, brainstorming for the class business, personal business ideas, and set a mentor/mentee contract. Thank you to all of our mentors! Do you know our mentors? We have been very busy listening to AMAZING speeches from our CEO students. They were thoughtful, had depth, and everyone was very supportive of others. They ended the day with a group hug after some moving speeches. This group is something special!

Today students presented their 1st Toastmasters speech. They were able to choose any topic to speak about for 3-5 minutes. We had many great speeches today and can't wait to hear the rest! Powerful speeches and great composure!

We were so excited to see this idea come to life!! Rooted Flower Co.welcomed CEO out last year and a collaboration for homecoming was discussed. Check out the amazing flower night!

On Thursday we visited with Sunny to learn about his various different businesses: Sunny's Ice Cream, Sunny's Mexican Food Truck, and Reed's Gas Station. He started his business journey when his kids were three and nine by taking a chance. They currently have eight ice cream trucks, the taco truck, and Reed’s Gas Station.

He shared about the challenges that he has had along the way as well as the challenges that still occur. He takes such a positive approach to keep moving forward and staying focused on his goals.

Sunny emphasized the importance of approaching your customers and connecting with them. Sunny shared that this is a way to keep people coming back to you. It is clear that he cares for the people he serves.

It was a fantastic morning that ended with a pretty special treat:)

This morning we were joined by Dr. Carolyn Dube as we worked through the DISC Assessment results. Dr. Dube shared great insights, challenged students work to understand their results, but also to be able to understand others. She shared how this can carry over into all ares of life and will help them to function as a team! Thanks for a great morning, Dr. Dube!
