Austin Montessori School Austin Montessori is internationally known in Montessori circles as an exemplary school.

From its modest beginnings in 1967, Austin Montessori School has grown, under the direction of founder Donna Bryant Goertz and since 2014 Head of School Grae Baker, to be a thriving community of children, parents, faculty, and staff on three Austin campuses. It regularly hosts teachers-in-training and other Montessori professionals who come to observe or attend workshops. Austin Montessori School

is the oldest and largest Austin area school recognized by AMI. (AMI is the educational association founded by Maria Montessori and the only one endorsed by her.) The faculty includes 67 dedicated faculty and administrative staff, including 34 AMI-trained professionals. The school strongly invests in their continuing education and personal development. This long-term commitment to staff development enriches the children's experience in the classroom and contributes to an exceptionally low faculty turnover. In addition to AMI Montessori training credentials, guides in the Upper Elementary and Adolescent Community hold advanced degrees in disciplines ranging from anthropology to classics to computer science. Austin Montessori provides an integrated, inclusive, highly personalized educational environment for children and adolescents from 16 months to 15 years old. Individual classes are specially designed to meet the developmental needs of the age range they serve.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our final “Fridays in the Backyard” of the 2025–26 school year! We are so grateful to everyone who participated in our Open Mic and helped make the evening a joyful celebration of community, music, and connection.

🎶☕ One last Coffee Shop before the school year comes to a close!

Join us this Friday, May 15, from 7:00–10:00 AM at the Gaines Creek campus for coffee, breakfast treats, and something brand new — LIVE MUSIC performed by our talented Gaines Creek students! From ukuleles and guitars to piano, we’re sending the 2025–2026 school year out on a high note.

On Friday, April 10, at 8:30 AM, spend the morning in conversation with Nadine Gardener, AMS Director of Elementary Programs, and Gina Applegate, AMS Director of Inclusion and Support. Nadine and Gina will explore how to support your child at home through the 3 Rs: reading, responsibilities, and the real-life rhythms of home-school work.

Together, they’ll share practical insights for nurturing developing readers, sustaining strong reading habits for fluent readers and older children, and fostering independence and responsibility through meaningful “home”-work.
