Against the Machine presents a partisan competition theory to explain why buying vote choices is typically ineffective, the conditions under which it occasionally succeeds, and why it persists despite meager electoral returns.

The LLILAS Indigenous Languages Initiatives is excited to announce that our First-Year K'iche' course will now be available via University Extension (UEX) in fall 2026. Taught by native speaker Manuela Tahay, the course is open to UT and non-UT students alike. It meets four times a week and can be attended remotely.

It was wonderful to reconnect with so many members of our community at the Latin American Studies Congress in Paris. UT Austin was very well represented, with a large delegation of scholars presenting their cutting-edge research.
