Being Chicana/o/x is something we inherit.
It is also something we become.
Our identities carry family stories, cultural memory, places, movements, contradictions, resistance and possibilities.
They connect us to what came before usβbut they are not frozen in the past. Every generation encounters new questions about belonging, culture and what it means to live as Chicana/o/x.
Being & Becoming Chicana/o/x opens our six-week online exploration of identity development.
The course is open to community members, students, educators, clinicians and anyone curious about Chicana/o/x identity.
You DO NOT need previous knowledge of Chicana/o/x Psychology.
You only need curiosity.

Identity is more than a label.
It can shape how we understand ourselves, where we belong, how others see usβand how we experience our own well-being.
But Chicana/o/x identity does not develop in isolation.
It is influenced by family, history, migration, generation, schools, sexuality, media, community and the world around us.
This fall, we invite you to explore these influences with us in:

Most therapeutic approaches ask clinicians to adapt existing theories to fit culture.
Chicana/o/x Affirmative Therapy begins somewhere different.
It begins with the assumption that Chicana/o/x culture already contains sophisticated understandings of identity, relationships, healing, resilience, and psychological well-being.
Rather than simply making mainstream psychotherapy more culturally responsive, this approach centers Chicana/o/x cultural knowledge as a primary foundation for clinical understanding and therapeutic intervention.
In either our ONLINE or INPERSON training, clinicians learn how to incorporate contemporary cultural strengths, community practices, family systems, spirituality, and ancestral ways of knowing into an affirming therapeutic process with Chicana/o/x and Latina/o/x clients.
After completing the training participants will receive:
- Certificate of Training Completion
- On-going support and consultation for 6 months after training
- Listing on our Clinician Directory
- Annual group check in sessions and case scenarios
