By the mid-1800s, New York City had become a crowded and unhealthy place, offering few opportunities for escape. Imagine living in a city where woodlands and green spaces were accessible only to those who could afford private natural areas.

This was a reality for most Americans at the time. But in the 1850s, something revolutionary happened. Frederick Law Olmsted believed that nature shouldn't be a luxury – it should be everyone's right.

Olmsted’s vision changed reality when his design won a competition to create a new kind of park in the heart of New York. It became America's first major public park, a bold declaration that natural beauty belongs to everyone.

Today, more than 40 million people visit New York City’s Central Park each year, many of whom are unaware of the monumental role the park played in advancing American society.

Did you know that Wisconsin is home to some of the oldest public healthcare services in America?

It all began in the mid-1860s when more than two million Americans came home from war.

A group of women in Wisconsin raised $100,000—nearly $2 million today—to support these Civil War veterans.

In response, the state approved the group's request to construct a permanent care facility near Milwaukee.

The women then joined forces with the resources of the federal government and helped open the Milwaukee Soldiers Home in 1867.

This facility provided some of the first VA medical services in the country.

Today, the Soldiers Home remains one of the oldest buildings in the VA system.

You know what they say - where Texas goes, America follows!

Since 2001, the city of Austin has offered GreenChoice, allowing its citizens to choose 100% clean, renewable electricity.

This program provides power to over 42,000 homes with minimal pollution and complete energy independence from any other state or country.

Today, Texas leads the U.S. in clean, independent energy production.

And Austin’s energy revenue continues to fund the city’s parks, swimming pools, libraries, police, and firefighters.
