What a great surprise for Dr. Charles Breithaupt (UIL) and Sam Tipton(TGCA) to be greeted by Dr. Valarie Little(Asst. Supt of Prosper ISD) as we prepared to present the 2025-26 5A-6A TGCA Field Athlete of the Year to Lauren Carrothers of Walnut Grove High School. This presentation was done at one of the most spirited and outstanding Pep Rallies we have ever witnessed. Walnut Grove High School, students, administrators, faculty, and support staff are for real. They are proud to be Wildcats.

When you go to Bellville High School to celebrate Susan Brewer for becoming the winningest volleyball coach in Texas history with 1304 UIL wins, you might run across a legend in the stands. Norma Pullin was Susan Brewer's high school coach at East Bernard. She had 939 career wins, the East Bernard gymnasium is named after her, and Susan and Norma are members of the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Last night there was a celebration at the Bellville HS Gym. Susan Brewer was recognized and honored for being the UIL volleyball coach with the most wins in the history of the game in Texas. There was a great crowd paying tribute to Coach Brewer for the wins and her entire 50 year coaching career at Bellville HS. Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst did a tremendous job in addressing the acknowledgment of the positive & successful achievements with the girls Coach Brewer has coached and her relationship with the community. Coach Susan Brewer is a special lady with an extraordinary talent of being a coach with fire, knowledge, caring & passion. Coach Brewer, thanks for being you in the past, present & future for our youth, & fellow coaches.

Texas Girls Coaches Association will be busy this week recognizing Athletes of the Year. On Monday the 2025-26 TGCA 5A-6A Softball AOY will be given the award at the Barbers Hill School Board Meeting. On Friday TGCA be at the Pep Rally at Walnut Grove High School to honor the 5A-6A Field AOY, and then will travel to the Wall High School football game to acknowledge the 1A-4A Tennis AOY. Anytime is a great time to celebrate and meet some of the best girl athletes in Texas.

Every day is a good day to celebrate girl athletes and cheerleaders representing the various schools in the state of Texas. Today,TGCA will be in Liberty,Texas awarding the 2025-26 1A-4A Softball Athlete of the Year to Brayleigh Taylor from Liberty High School. She is coached by Karen Slack.

It is hard to believe, but eight & ten team UIL districts in volleybal will start conference play next week. A select few will see a dream become reality at the Culwell Center in November at the UIL State Volleyball Championships. Athletics are so needed in our educational system. Individuals are taught how to win and how to lose with reverence, dignity, and grace toward their opponent. Without sportsmanship, athletics have no place in the educational process.
