Didn't get into that neuroscience class you wanted? Interested in studying a topic in neuroscience not covered in your classes? Read on to learn how to participate in this semester’s Neuroscience Undergraduate Reading Program (NURP)!
NURP is designed to pair undergraduate students* with a graduate student mentor in order to facilitate an in-depth, independent study in an area of neuroscience. We do our best to pair students and mentors who have similar interests. *Students should have completed NEU 330 or its equivalent.
Projects range from reading through a series of articles, to learning in detail about a technique, but are not limited to such things. The goal is to cover material that isn't typically covered in a standard undergraduate coursework. Mentors and students will choose their projects together based on the student's interests and the mentor's expertise. More details about choosing a project will be provided after the program has started.
Students are expected to:
• Meet with their mentors once per week for about an hour
• Spend 4-5 hours per week on NURP-related work.
• Prepare and deliver a 15 minute talk at the end of the semester (Thursday, December 6th, 2018).
Mentors are expected to:
• Meet with their students once per week for about an hour.
• Prepare students to give a 15 minute talk at the end of the semester.
• Attend the student talks at the end of the semester.
