Thank you to everyone who came out to Anna Hiss for the opening night of the 2026 UT Design Show.
This year's B.F.A. Capstone Showcase brought together some of the most personal, ambitious work our program has seen. Each project told a story about the designer behind it—and every designer had something worth saying.

One of our faculty members gave a TED Talk, and it'll change how you see everyday design.
Kate Canales, Professor of Practice in the Department of Design, has spent more than 20 years photographing the handmade signs people leave behind when design falls short—uncovering something no technology can replicate: our instinct to look out for one another.

Join us for the 2026 University of Texas at Austin MFA in Design Thesis Exhibition—Known Otherwise: Design as Sensemaking in Times of Uncertainty.
Known Otherwise challenges the idea that knowledge is singular, objective, or fixed. This exhibition explores sensemaking as a deeply personal act—surfacing truths shaped by culture, memory, embodiment, and resistance. Through materials, images, and practice, the work asks what design can carry that can't always be explained.
