Light UT up BLUE!

Autism Speaks U was started at UT in October 2011 as the first university chapter in Texas. We will bring awareness about autism to the UT campus and advocate for individuals and families affected by autism. We will also be supporting the local autism community. Our goal is to change the future for those whose lives are affected by autism. All students are welcome to join us and support our cause. We can't wait to see you, and "Light UT up BLUE!"

Teaching Self-Calming Skills | Responsive Classroom 12/13/2013

" "You need to calm down." This is something I hear a lot in my work as a behavior specialist when a student starts to get agitated—answering rudely, refusing to work, making insulting comments, or whining. A teacher might tell a child to "go sit in the beanbag chair and calm down" or simply "relax."

The problem is, many students don’t know how to calm down. "

They are the only organization offering this type of support- peer to peer learning and in both Spanish and English. We look forward to getting involved with them!

"Combining her love of fashion, the alphabet, and the color green, 15-year-old Hannah Greenberg is creating a new T-shirt line. But it's not your typical clothing line: the teen has autism, and the goal of the project is to help others with the same disorder. The shirts will be created by Spectrum Designs, a company composed entirely of employees with autism."
