๐Ÿค˜ From research to patient care, Kennedy Stevens is ready to explore all that pharmacy has to offer.

A Fort Worth native and University of North Texas graduate, Kennedy first got a glimpse of life at Texas Pharmacy through the LEADER program, where research, mentorship and exposure to the many paths within pharmaceutical sciences helped make her decision to apply an easy one.

Now, as a member of the Class of 2030, she hopes to help broaden understanding of the pharmacy profession while becoming a practitioner who helps q***r patients and those from historically marginalized communities feel seen, supported and well cared for.

And beyond pharmacy? You'll likely find Kennedy reading, playing video games, listening to rock and alternative music or planning her next tripโ€”she's already visited more than half the states in the U.S.! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽธโœˆ๏ธ

Join us in congratulating graduate student Anuj Biswas on receiving the Drs. Kishor and Ellen Wasan Family Pharmaceutics Graduate Award! ๐ŸŽ‰

Presented by the Division of Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery (MPDD), the award recognizes outstanding performance and contributions by a graduate student in pharmaceutics.

Anuj's research focuses on designing and characterizing buprenorphine-loaded PLGA implants for long-acting subcutaneous drug delivery. His ongoing work has already contributed to a provisional patent filing related to implant design and performance.

We're grateful to Drs. Kishor and Ellen Wasan and their family for their generous support of MPDD graduate students. Dr. Kishor Wasan is also a proud Texas Pharmacy alumnus โ€” making this recognition especially meaningful to our 'Pharmily.'

Congratulations, Anuj! Hook 'em! ๐Ÿค˜

๐Ÿค˜Meet Isaiah! An Edinburg, Texas, native and UTRGV graduate, Isaiah Erks is bringing his Rio Grande Valley roots with him to the Forty Acres โ€” and starting a journey he hopes will eventually lead back home.

Becoming a Longhorn has been a longtime goal for Isaiah, but it's the people and purpose of Texas Pharmacy that made it the right fit. As a member of the Pharm.D. Class of 2030, he's excited to explore the possibilities within pharmacy while working toward a bigger goal: expanding access to care and giving back to the communities that shaped him.

๐ŸŽ™๏ธ What happens to hospice care after acquisition by an investor-owned firm?

Texas Pharmacy Research Assistant Professor of Health Outcomes Jiebing Wen, Ph.D., recently joined Health Affairs Publishing's Rob Lott on the A Health Podyssey podcast to discuss her research examining hospice acquisitions and their impact on patient care.

Her recent paper found that acquisitions by investor-owned firms were associated with lower care staffing intensity and fewer patient visit minutes โ€” findings with important implications for hospice patients and families, including those receiving care in nursing homes and memory care settings.

The research was selected by Health Affairs Publishing to be featured on the podcast for a deeper conversation about the findings and their potential impact.

What role could pharmacists play in the future of psychedelic therapy?

A new Comment published in Nature Mental Health explores how psychiatric pharmacists could help shape the safe and effective delivery of psychedelic therapies as this emerging area of mental health care continues to evolve.

Texas Pharmacy researchers highlight how the expertise of Board-Certified Psychiatric Pharmacists โ€” from medication management and patient safety to their role on interdisciplinary care teams โ€” uniquely positions them to contribute to this developing field. Their involvement could also help address workforce shortages and expand access to psychiatric care.

The article brings together Texas Pharmacy researchers Jayme Jenkins, Samantha Catanzano, Nina Vadiei, Madeline Brendle, Rana Zalmai, M. Lynn Crismon and Anton Avanceรฑa.
