Ana Lily Amirpour’s stylish debut feature has moved into the modern horror canon. Her always-probing camera leads us through the streets of a fictional slum called Bad City where we see the lives of its inhabitants through the eyes of a skateboarding female vampire.

Forugh Farrokhzad Fifty Years Later: A Seminar
Saturday, 4 February 2017, 2-8 pm, Mezes Hall 1.306, UT Campus

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of leading Iranian poet Forugh Farrokhzad (1935-1967) and in conjunction with a Spring 2017 UT Austin course called Forugh Farrokhzad and Her Poetry, a seminar called Forugh Farrokhzad Fifty Years Later will take place on 4 February 2017, co-sponsored by UT’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Society of Iranian American Women in Austin. Here is the tentative schedule for the seminar, which will take place in Mezes Hall 1.306 and is open to the public:

2:00 pm–“Slide Images of Forugh Farrokhzad and Her Story”
by Michael Craig Hillmann.
2:45 pm–“On Teaching Farrokhzad’s Poems” by Blake Atwood.
3:30 pm–“The Role and Effects of Forugh’s Poetry in the History
of Persian Literature” (in Persian) by Maryam Sadeghi.
4:15 pm–“Truth Was Those Two Hands: Forugh Farrokhzad's Legacy in the Arts and Literature of the Iranian Diaspora”
by Jasmin Darznik.
5:15 pm–“Pivotal Issues in Forugh Farrokhzad: A Literary Biography” (in Persian) by Farzaneh Milani.
6:30 pm–Farrokhzad's Poems: Readings (in Persian) by Maryam Sadeghi, seh’târ musical accompaniment by Alireza Haydari.
