**Exaggerating errors to diminish them**

One of the best ways to find our sweet spot is to deliberately explore the extremes — what happens if we make this movement twice as big? Tiny? Super slow? This post explains how pushing all the way to the edges of our range helps us understand and own the middle, giving us real control over the full range of possibilities.

Many people start learning Argentine tango for its sensuality and elegance. But many also drop out when they discover its movement and emotional complexity. Our guided approach gives concise and clear challenges, experiments, experiences, and explorations that allow you to discover your inner dancer and share that with a partner. Learn how to master energy—you, your partner, and the music—to create beautiful feelings.
Anyone who wishes to become a good writer [teacher] should endeavour, before they allow themselves to be tempted by the more showy qualities, to be direct, simple, brief, vigorous, and lucid. -H.W. Fowler, lexicographer (10 Mar 1858-1933)

When we move, our attention usually and naturally goes to the parts of our body facing the way we want
to move. That's natural… and limiting. When we focus on motivating our movement from the side or
parts on the opposite side of our body, it activates all of our body.

A student in our tango class** wrote to say they would have to regretfully drop out after missing several classes. We wrote back ...
We certainly understand if you need to drop out. We will likely offer the class again in the Fall.
And! Each class reviews earlier material. Plus, students helping other students is actually a great learning experience. When we explain things to others, we test and strengthen our own knowledge. Plus, part of the ethos of Argentine tango is meeting others where they are at, seeking to create an enjoyable dance experience even when dancers have different levels of ability and experience.

No resistance, no weight? No! Really.
I am at a loss to understand why so many Argentine tango teachers insist that, "We don't share weight; we don't offer resistance; we are each independent movers." If that's so, we might as well be dancing solo. (Which, by the way, is one of the best things we can do to develop our movement musicality.) Our physical connection — which does share varying levels of weight and resistance according to the needs of the dance — is the 1 + 1 > 2 of our partner dance....

The February 2026 issue of AOPA Pilot magazine recounts an event at Palm Beach International Airport where Air Traffic Control guided a non-pilot passenger to land safely after the pilot became incapacitated.
Those transcripts are gripping human drama. They are also a master class in how to teach someone a complex, high-stakes skill in real time.
I began to wonder what lessons we might borrow for Argentine tango.
Which is more stressful:
— returning an airplane safely to earth, or
— the private panic of stepping onto a dance floor?
Which is more complex:
— managing an aircraft, or
— coordinating two bodies, emotions, and music?
To explore this, I asked ChatGPT to help analyze the reports for teaching principles. The big lesson?
Stop teaching only Steps (figures).

This article blends that analysis with my own experience in tango classrooms.
